On day five, Maximus had a follow-up check to see how he was doing. His skin bilirubin number was 11.3 so he was in the clear for being jaundice. His weight was up to 6.7 lbs so they weren’t worried about him getting enough milk. In the last 24 hours he had started having dirty diapers so they knew he was getting milk. The discharge nurse helped me tweak some positions so he could eat better and I wasn’t in as much pain. We left the hospital feeling great!
I had a follow-up appointment with the OB who performed the c-section. He took out my stitches, which were at both ends of the incision. He kept the tape on the rest of the incision and said the glue would evaporate on its own. He gave me a clean bill of health even though I was still moving pretty slow and in some pain. He gave me the go ahead to drive or jog or do whatever I wanted. I don’t think I gave him a disgusted look, but my head was calling him all kinds of crazy names. Who could imagine jogging when I still needed help getting into a sitting position!
We had a long day in Ames on day five. We were there from 9 am to 4 pm. He had his first Battles BBQ experience and slept through it. (Thankfully!) We nursed in the car at the doctor’s office and cut him a little short so we could make my appointment. Instead, we sat in the waiting room for 45 minutes before the doctor could see me. Bryan dealt with a fussy baby who at the end was crying. So, then I nursed in the exam room while the doctor removed my stitches. I figure he’s the one who took Maximus out, so no big deal right? Then we took him to Target to pick up some things. All-in-all, it was a successful day, but I was exhausted by the time we got home!
